First Election in AJK-Azad Kashmir

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) had its first elections in 1970. In Pakistan, the autonomous region of AJK has elections that are different from those in the rest of the country. 53 people make up the AJK Legislative Assembly, of which 41 are chosen by direct vote and 12 by the Pakistani Prime Minister. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Interim Constitution Act of 1974 governed the first AJK elections, and the following elections have been held periodically every five years.
